Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has officially assumed the role of Malaysia’s 15th Inspector-General of Police (IGP), succeeding Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who retired after completing his tenure.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) marked the occasion with a formal ceremony at Bukit Aman police headquarters, where Khalid was welcomed with a Guard Turn Out and escorted to sign his official appointment documents on the 31st floor. The event was attended by several senior police officials and included a prayer session led by Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standard Compliance Department Deputy Director (Religion and Counselling), Datuk Azhan Abdul Halim.
Mohd Khalid’s appointment was formally endorsed by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail during a handing-over ceremony held on June 20. The minister praised Khalid’s extensive experience and leadership within the force, citing his deep-rooted commitment to national security and public service.
Born on April 8, 1965, in Manong, Perak, Mohd Khalid began his policing career in 1987. He held numerous key positions over nearly four decades in the force, including a diplomatic stint as police attaché at the Malaysian High Commission in London from 2014 to 2018. Following his return, he led the Pahang Special Branch before being promoted in 2023 to Director of the Bukit Aman Special Branch, a pivotal intelligence arm within PDRM.
As he takes over the leadership of the national police force, Khalid has firmly denied any political affiliations, following erroneous media reports linking him to a political party. He reaffirmed his professional independence, supported by a public clarification issued by PKR’s secretary-general.
Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail’s appointment signals a continuation of the PDRM’s focus on intelligence-led policing, institutional integrity, and community safety under a new era of leadership.
