Ramanan Joins Contest for PKR Presideny

PKR Deputy Information Chief 1, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, has officially announced his candidacy for the party’s vice-presidency in the upcoming elections this May.

Ramanan, who also serves as the Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, emphasized that his decision is aimed at further strengthening and empowering PKR, from the grassroots to the central leadership level.

“In making this decision to take on such an important responsibility, I consulted with party leaders, comrades, and Keadilan members across the country,” Ramanan said in a statement. “The spirit of struggle must align with the Malaysia MADANI concept, and I believe together, we can do our best for the future of the nation. Membujur lalu melintang patah. Reformasi!”

Ramanan, the Sungai Buloh MP, also confirmed that he had already informed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the president of PKR, about his decision.

In addition to Ramanan, several other prominent figures have announced their bids for the vice-presidency. These include Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Chang Lih Kang, and Nurul Izzah Anwar. All of them will be defending their current vice-president positions.

PKR Information Chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who also serves as the Communications Minister, has also declared his candidacy for the vice-presidency as well. Fahmi, who previously contested for the role in the 2022 party elections, believes there is room for him to contribute more to PKR in this capacity. “The contest in PKR is a contest within the family. We will compete in a healthy way, avoiding unhealthy elements. My team and I will present our best ideas because PKR is a party focused on the future,” he said at a Kuala Lumpur event.

This marks Fahmi’s second attempt at the vice-presidency, after his unsuccessful bid in 2022. He joins the list of contenders, including Nurul Izzah, who announced her intention to run for the post as well.

The PKR central leadership elections are scheduled for May 24.
