The government has announced a special Hari Raya financial assistance of RM500 for civil servants in Grade 56 and below, with payments to be made on Monday, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar, who also holds the position of Finance Minister, further stated that government retirees, including pensionable and non-pensionable veterans, will receive RM250 each.
“Although the issue of civil servant bonuses seemed resolved in February, the government has seriously reconsidered it in light of improved administration, better service, and the dedication shown by our civil servants,” said Anwar.
He added, “Thus, I have decided that each civil servant in Grade 56 and below will receive RM500 next week, while retirees, including pensionable and non-pensionable veterans, will receive RM250.”
This announcement was made after the Prime Minister attended Friday prayers at Masjid Sultan Abdul Samad, Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
As per Service Circular No. 1/2024 on the Implementation of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), Grades 55 and 56 under the Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM) have now been reclassified as Grade SSPA 15.
The special Hari Raya payments, which will benefit 1.6 million civil servants and retirees, are expected to involve an allocation of nearly RM900 million.
“With stronger economic growth, improved national revenue, and a more disciplined and organized civil service, we have managed to reduce leakages, though some still remain,” Anwar noted.
He emphasized that the government’s firm stance on governance aims to prevent corruption and leakages within the public sector, stating, “When the government generates revenue, we must return it to the people.”
In addition to civil servants, the Finance Ministry confirmed that the special Hari Raya assistance will also be extended to contract-appointed officers and staff, including those in contract of service, contract for service, daily part-time positions, and MySTEP appointments.
The RM250 aid for government retirees will apply to pensioned retirees, derivative pension recipients, Employees Provident Fund retirees, as well as both pensionable and non-pensionable veterans.
“The government hopes this special assistance will help ease the financial burden on civil servants and retirees, and serve as encouragement for them to continue their dedicated service,” the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
In addition to these payments, the government will also expedite the Phase 2 disbursement of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) for nine million recipients, starting Monday, with an allocation of RM1.7 billion.
