Blushes and Banter as Anwar teases Syed Saddiq about his new beau Bella

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim couldn’t resist poking fun at Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman when he caught wind of the news about Syed Saddiq’s new relationship. With a mischievous grin, Anwar playfully teased Saddiq, hinting at all the new romantic developments. Syed Saddiq, clearly caught off guard, tried to maintain his composure, but the teasing was relentless. Anwar’s lighthearted banter sparked a playful exchange between the two, making everyone around them laugh. It was all in good fun, but Syed Saddiq couldn’t escape the jokes for long—Anwar was on a roll!

In the midst of the lively atmosphere at Parliament, Anwar and Saddiq shared a light-hearted moment in the Parliament lobby.

Syed Saddiq, who had previously shared his intention to gift Prime Minister Anwar two pairs of baju melayu—a traditional Malay outfit for men—on social media, finally made good on his promise on March 4. The two outfits included a blue baju melayu, Mr. Anwar’s favourite colour and also the official colour of his party, Parti Keadilan Rakyat, and a pink one.

It was the pink baju melayu that led to Anwar teasing Syed Saddiq, 33, about the growing buzz surrounding his relationship with artist Bella Astillah, 31.

“Bella needs to be next to me, then I can wear it,” Mr. Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, joked.

Syed Saddiq, visibly blushing, playfully responded, “Don’t tease me like that. That’s mine… Give me a chance.”

The playful banter didn’t stop there as Mr. Anwar went on to ask about Syed Saddiq’s future plans, hinting at the possibility of marriage.

“So when is it? Have you set the date yet?” Mr. Anwar asked with a grin.

Syed Saddiq, maintaining his composure, responded, “Let’s just pray for it, Datuk Seri, don’t worry. Whatever happens, you’ll be the first to know.”

Rumours of a romance between Syed Saddiq and Bella began circulating after the two were chosen as ambassadors for a popular clothing brand. Their close bond has only fueled these speculations, with the duo frequently seen together in various settings—from completing photoshoots to even conquering Mount Kinabalu in Sabah.

Bella, who was previously married to Singaporean singer-actor Aliff Aziz, made headlines in March 2024 after Aliff was detained by religious authorities on suspicion of committing khalwat (close proximity) with Malaysian actress Ruhainies.

The relationship rumours between Syed Saddiq and Bella gained further momentum after Bella’s son, Ayden, referred to him as “dad” during a recent visit to Parliament. A heartwarming TikTok clip showed Ayden excitedly running towards his mother and calling Syed Saddiq “dad.”

Many were touched by the video, with some highlighting the importance of a father figure in a child’s life.

Adding to the supportive atmosphere, Syed Saddiq’s brother, Syed Abdullah, also voiced his approval, offering his support should his younger sibling find a match in Bella.
